Brisbane Local ranked one of five top startups in the world

Brisbane Local and recipient of the Lord Mayors Budding Entrepreneur Program has been recognised as one of 5 top startups in the world.

In 2015, James Oliver developed Conweigh a mobile container weighing business that provides an on-demand and on-site container weighing alternative to expensive and heavy weighing equipment such as weighbridges.

Shortly after launching Conweigh, James applied for Round 7 of the Lord Mayors Budding Entrepreneur program and was a successful winner of a 5,000 grant that assisted in professional development and business networking.

“With the help of local support and the Lord Mayors Budding Entrepreneur Program, Conweigh was able to grow and develop.

“Through participating in local programs, the team has formed great business connections in Brisbane and has gained access to new ideas, opinions and strategies,”James said.

Following the success and growth of Conweigh in Brisbane, James was invited to attend a boot camp at Boston’s MassChallenge headquarters where he was judged the overall winner of the ‘Minute to Pitch It’ competition. Shortly after, Conweigh was named one of the top five startups from Australia, fast tracking the business to a final round of selection for a four-month accelerator program in the US.

Brisbane Chief Digital Officer said local initiatives such as the Lord Mayor’s Budding Entrepreneur Program has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding to up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

“A great way for startups to grow is to develop professionally and to become connected with local networks through the right channels,” Cat said.

James through Conweigh demonstrates that it is possible to achieve your dreams of becoming an entrepreneur in a competitive and emerging startup market.

Round 8, Budding Entrepreneur Digital Startup Funding applications are now open and offering up to $50,000 in grant funding for ten innovative entrepreneurs.
