The Capital

Update: The Capital opens at 155 Queen St.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk today announced that Australia’s largest co-working space operator, Sydney-based Fishburners, would join Brisbane-based operator Little Tokyo Two as the anchor tenants for Brisbane’s new hub of innovation.

The hub, to be known as “The Capital”, will operate from a CBD location and will ensure Brisbane continues to move into the digital realm at breathtaking speed.

The council is committing $5 million over five years to the project to ensure the city’s burgeoning startup community has a focal point to nurture and expand ideas.

The Capital will house Digital Brisbane and the city’s Chief Digital Officer and will also be the home of the Visiting Entrepreneurs program; CoderDojo; Power Up and other digital events.

The expandable, multi-purpose CBD facility and spaces will provide co-location opportunities for existing companies and operators that nurture the start-up community.

Central to the hub strategy is connectivity to the local, national and international startup ecosystems to enable meaningful collaborations with the brightest minds in the knowledge economy.

Cr Quirk said Brisbane not only embraced the disruptive technologies re-shaping our world, but this initiative would also help the city to play a key role in creating and exporting them to global markets.
